AI is not responsible for everything going wrong in the world.
Yet increasingly, it feels like the explanation for everything.
Layoffs? AI.
Restructuring? AI.
Uncertain careers? AI.
Some of it is real. AI is a remarkable technological breakthrough, and it is changing how work gets done.
But not every business decision is an AI decision.
And while we debate what AI will do to humanity, billions of people still struggle with clean water, food, healthcare and quality education.
Climate change is already disrupting lives.
Wars continue. Borders are becoming harder to cross. Opportunities are narrowing for many talented people.
These are not AI problems.
They are problems of policy, economics, governance, priorities and human choices.
AI may help us address some of them. It may create new challenges of its own.
But it cannot replace human responsibility.
My concern isn't that we are paying too much attention to AI.
It's that we may be paying too little attention to everything else.
Technological progress is extraordinary.
But it should never be mistaken for human progress.
